The couple Steve Haley and Barbara Haley win the Powerball jackpot worth $1,50,000 after husband accidentally goofs up with the numbers. The prize was won a month back and they claimed it recently. The duo has been playing the Powerball jackpot since 30 years with a hope of winning someday. They have been playing with the same numbers since forever which reflects the special dates of their family. The couple lives in Sioux city and purchased the lottery ticket from a retail store.

Lottery numbers which they play with are 01, 05, 09, 27, 28 Powerball number – 14

While selecting the numbers this time for the Powerball jackpot on 23rd Jan,2021 for $23.2 millions, Steve mistakenly marked 08 instead of 09. And what luck they had, the goof up resulted in the huge prize. 4 main numbers and the Powerball number matched the winning ticket which served them a prize of $1,50,000.

Barbara stated to the Iowa lottery officials while claiming the prize “we thought that we were going to get $300 but we received $1,50,000 with the 08 getting matched.” Since they paid an extra dollar for the megaplier option their $50,000 prize was tripled to $1,50,000.

The couple beats the odds o f 1 in 913,129 f matching 4 numbers and a Powerball number. The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot is 1 in 292 millions which is highly slim.

Barbara also said “I always tell my husband to wear his glasses and then work but now I won’t pinch him anymore. His goof up has resulted in an absolutely unexpected prize to us so I am going to quit complaining.”

How to play the Powerball lottery?

  • Players are supposed to pick a total 6 numbers from two different pools. 5 main white numbers from the integer pool of 1 to 69 and the Powerball number from the integer pool of 1 to 26.
  • Numbers can be manually selected or the QuickPick option is also available for automatic random number generation.
