The Powerball Jackpot was won by an unidentified group of Marylanders. The group took home $731.1 million. It was the highest lottery win in Maryland Lottery history.
The winners, dubbed “The Power Pack,” purchased a single ticket on January 20 at Coney Market in Lonaconing, Maryland. They are now collecting a jackpot of $546.8 million in cash.
The company will make around $366.6 million after taxes.
According to the Maryland State Lottery & Gaming Control Agency, the person who bought the ticket from “The Power Pack” “checked it about a half dozen times” before informing the other participants. He also said, “this isn’t right; I’m going to work.”

They told the Maryland Lottery that they intend to use the money to provide for their families, make a positive effect in their communities, and have no intentions to modify their lifestyles.
The winners had until July 21 to redeem their Powerball jackpot prize, which was 182 days after the drawing date.
According to the press release, the $731.1 million prize is the fourth-largest in Powerball jackpot history and the sixth-largest in US lottery history.
In Maryland, the previous enormous lottery victory was a $656 million Mega Millions jackpot on March 30, 2012, which was claimed by another unidentified group known as “The Three Amigos.” The winnings totaled $218.6 million for the group.
According to the press release, this is the state’s first Powerball win since 2011, and it is third overall. The previous two Powerball jackpots were $128.8 million in December 2011, and $108.8 million in September 2011 – far less than the 128.8 million won on January 20.
The Maryland Lottery awarded Coney Market a $100,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
The award will generate $49 million in tax revenue for Maryland. “As a result, everyone in Maryland wins,” said Carole Gentry, Director of Communications for the Maryland Lottery.
